A family of 21 monasteries founded by Abbot Boniface Wimmer OSB; erected as a monastic congregation by Pope Pius IX, 24 August 1855. As of August 2005, the Congregation consists of 933 monks: 5 bishops, 592 priests, 9 deacons, 249 brothers, 48 juniors, 26 novices and 4 claustral oblates.
